Filtration Grades

Selecting the Right Grade

Compressed air filters are classified by the contaminants they remove. ISO 8573 defines the purity classes; use this guide to select the appropriate grade for your application.

Coalescing Pre-Filter

Removes bulk liquid water and oil aerosols to 1 micron. The first stage of filtration, typically installed immediately downstream of the aftercooler or separator.

ISO Class 2–3 oil aerosol

High-Efficiency Coalescing

Removes oil aerosols to 0.01 mg/m³ and particles down to 0.01 micron. Required for sensitive applications including food-grade and pharmaceutical processes.

ISO Class 1 oil aerosol

Activated Carbon

Removes residual oil vapour that coalescing filters cannot capture. Required when oil-free air is specified or for breathing air applications.

ISO Class 1 oil vapour

Particulate Filter

Removes dry particulate contamination including dust and rust from pipework. Typically installed as a final filter before point-of-use equipment.

ISO Class 1–2 solid particle
